The entry of the Czech Republic to the European Union
The Two Hundred Koruna coin is struck from an alloy, containing 900 parts of silver, 100 parts of copper and is issued in two versions: normal and proof, which differ in surface finish and a frieze with international codes of states admitted on the smooth side. In the proof coins, the field of the coin is highly polished and the relief is matted; there are stars between individual states’ codes; in coins of normal quality, the states’ codes are separated by tilted squares. The coin measures 31 mm, weighs 13 g and is 2,3 mm thick. The author of the coin’s face is Mr. Josef Oplištil, and the author of the reverse design is Mr. Jakub Vlček. The face of the two hundred koruna’s coin has a composition of heraldic animals from the Czech Republic’s Coat of Arms and the coin’s face value designation "200 Kč". Besides the composition of the heraldic animal symbols and the coin’s nominal value, there is also the state’s name, together with 12 five-pointed stars, symbolizing the European Union. The coin mint’s hallmark and the side author’s initials supplement the depiction and headings. The reverse of the coin has stylized symbols on four lines, which are characteristic for the present member states of the European Union; there is an open space between them, symbolizing the Union’s openness to other states. The edge of the two hundred koruna’s coin has text “the entry of the Czech Republic to the European Union,” and a date "1. 5. 2004" together with the author’s initials.
